The best bibs ever!
I have found that the best bibs ever are from Cotton On Kids. They are quite pricey, $9.95 each or two for $15, but they are thick and absorbent, have cute designs, and fit nicely around the neck with a press stud. I wouldn’t bother with any other cotton/thinner bibs. *On sale until 26th September 2011 – these bibs are only $6.97 each!

Coping with visitors when you bring baby home
Quite a few of my friends have either just had a baby, or are due in the very near future and this has me thinking about those first few weeks at home when everyone wants to come and visit (less you and more of) the new baby. To be honest, it’s lovely for people to come out of their way and visit you, but the thought of friends stepping into the messy, laundry-strewn, dishes-piled-high house was very stressful. I know that nobody else cares about the mess or having something to eat and drink, but for me I just wanted a tidy space to sit in with my visitors. What I would purchase for a new baby now…
It is easy now to say what I would buy now for a new baby, but in the beginning it was very tricky. There are SO MANY products on the market and as all first time parents want to have the right equipment at the right time, it can leave one feeling very confused and uncertain. Especially when everything is so expensive :/ So after 14 months, there are a few things I’d buy if I could go back in time – or next time around

Roast Pumpkin and Zucchini Risotto (8mo+)
This is one of my favourite risotto recipes, it is currently serving a rotation or two on our winter months menu plan. It is perfect for Lucy at 14mo as she is practising feeding herself and the rice sticks nicely to her spoon

Starting solids – preparing and storing food (4-6mo)
There is debate about what age babies should be starting solids. Many books say different things, but in collaboration with our Child Health Nurse and ourselves we decided that Lucy was ready for solids at 4 months. Read the rest of this entry

Travelling with a baby
Our first holiday away as a family was when Lucy was about 3.5 months. For us, this was a perfect time to go away for many reasons – and I would heartily recommend that if you want to go away overseas or interstate when you’ve had your baby, this would be a pretty good time (keep in mind we didn’t have to deal with reflux or colic). We travelled from Perth to Brisbane (about a 6 hour flight one way and 5.5 hours the other). Read the rest of this entry

What to do during all that controlled crying time…
We decided to try controlled crying with Lucy at six months of age, because up until that point we had been rocking her off to sleep swaddled in our arms, or driving her up and down the freeway for her day naps. It was beginning to get a bit difficult with her growing, and not to mention the petrol costs! Plus we had seen glimpses of “I’m learning mum and dad! Look at this!” during her play time. We had the feeling that she was ready to learn how to put herself to sleep and we were ready not to have to sit with her in our arms for hours on end. Read the rest of this entry

Shopping with toddlers
The title of this blog post sounds like a new release horror film. Who in their right mind would take a toddler shopping!? But you know what? It has to be done – for food, household supplies, clothes in the next size up for the kidlets….and of course for a coffee OUT OF THE HOUSE!
